about

Merger is Nicholas Langley (Hz) and Mike Wilson (Crushtrash).

This album was recorded in four or five sessions around 1999-2000. Each session we produced a few tracks using a very fast creative method. We would come up with ideas, play, and record straight onto CDRs. Then we would choose sections from the CDRs to loop on CD decks and jam over the top. This would sometimes build up a few layers and would also occassionally involve some minimal editing or post-production. It was a very fun and rewarding process.

The first half of the album deals with light and the more new-age end of ambient, whilst the second half moves into darker realms of night music and the subconscious.

I had always intended to create a Henri Rousseau inspired painting for the cover. Instead, I recommend looking at Rousseau's art (particularly The Dream, Tiger In A Tropical Storm and The Sleeping Gypsy) whilst listening to our soundtrack.
